I’m surprised and delighted to have been awarded this year’s Ireland Chair of Poetry Bursary by current Professor Harry Clifton:

Each year Ireland’s Professor of Poetry nominates a ‘poet of promise’ for a bursary award which enables the recipient to spend time working on their arts practice, away from domestic duties or disturbances.

The award entitles me to spend no less four weeks in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig. Equally exciting is the accolade itself, which is fairly humbling given those who’ve been granted it previously. I’m looking forward to my spell in the Guthrie Centre, where I’ve never been before, and the opportunity it will afford to write, read, or even just to think.  My gratitude, of course, goes to Harry Clifton, not only for the bursary but also for his very, very generous words about my work
